What a long couple of days...

Can I just first say that we are so blessed to live in a time where you can up and go to the middle of the country and back in a little over 24 hours? Andrew and I got the good news about Adrian on Tuesday. Wednesday afternoon was the first time that his mother would talk to us. She was completely unwilling to bring Adrian at all to us, so to the internet we went. In a matter of minutes we had plane tickets, a car rental, and directions to her house. Then we were able to say, well, we will be there Saturday morning--have him ready. Buying things online and even doing internet banking used to be things that really intimidated me, and now I live by them!
We flew out Friday afternoon, thank you mom for the ride to meet Andrew--you are awesome! (And a huge thank you also to you and to Chloe and Chad for your help with Reese, took that whole stress right off my mind. I love you guys!) The only down side was due to the last minute nature of our plans we had to take a plane that had a layover in Phoenix. It took forever to get to Denver! Once we got there we got straight to the car rental and then headed out to Colorado Springs. We checked into a hotel at 12:30 am (11:30 back home, but we were exhausted!) We woke up this morning only to start right away with the travels. Went to the Army base to get Adrian. (P.S. we did have to go through this long line at the gate to get through the visitor's entrance because of some little league thing there, but since we have military ID's our car was the only one not inspected--saved us some time!)
Luckily nothing unexpected happened when we went to pick him up. His mom was kind of ignoring us as much as possible, but we got out without any major incidents, which is always nice. The flight home was kind of fun since Adrian had never flown before, try to explain to someone how to get their ears to pop...not an easy feat! We tried everything and he couldn't get it to work for a really long time. Poor kid, hopefully that didn't ruin it for him. Well, now we are home and one hair-cut and a change of clothes later we have our happy and content little boy home with us. I was too tired to do pictures tonight, but I will get some up soon (or at least try to, I am going to have to get used to this full time mom thing!)
P.S. any advice on how to make morning routines go smoothly, school lunch tricks, homework tricks, pretty much anything to do with mothering an almost 8 year old boy, feel free to share!

Toshia can I just say that you are awesome. Motherhood is tough when they come one at a time and they are helpless little infants. It is incredibly wonderful of you to step up and love & care for this little boy. Advise? Not really, except join the club, I think we're all looking for answers. To me that is why sisterhood is so precious we need each other to counsel with, laugh with, cry with, rejoice with, and share all that life throws at us together.

I totally agree with Jenn:) And hello? Being the 2nd oldest of 11 kids must have given you a *clue* about mothering! You'll do great! I'm so happy for you and your little family!

Jenn really said it all. I think you are amazing. I think we get infants so we can learn as we go, it's a little differnt to get them when they are older and set in their ways.
Lots of patience and love and never say a negative thing about his mom even if you think he's not listening.
Your going to be amazing!

Congratulations Toshia for winning custody and stepping up to the plate of Motherhood! I agree with Paige that if you ever figure out the whole routine stuff let me know. It's not easy!

Jenn said it perfectly! We are all here for you, so remember that! I know that you will do great because it is clear how much you love him already. And because of that, the rest will come more easily than you would expect.

I'm so glad that everything went smoothly and quickly! You will be such a natural at this! I think you need a "big kid shower" or something to celebrate!

OOOOOO...I like the 'big kid shower' idea! That would be soooo much fun!
YOU are going to be great at this! Just take one day at a time and don't hesitate to reach out to those who have come before you for advice and HELP. We all need it from time to time and there is no shame in admitting it. With that said...YOU are going to be a natural. Congratulations!
