Saturday, June 28, 2008: A day of traveling
This day began at 2 a.m. for us. Yuck! I am so not a morning person. Luckily we spent the night before packing and would spend the bulk of this day possibly sleeping on airplanes. What fun! Our flight left Portland at 6 am and arrived in Houston at 1205, a nice 4 hour flight! I spent most of the flight napping in between trips to the bathroom :) We had a 2 hour layover in Houston which ended up being just enough time to get some lunch and use the bathroom before we had to board our flight to Tampa. I only got one picture from this day, but it was definitely one I took for blog purposes! We got lunch at a "Mexican" fast food place in the airport. The lady working the register was a pleasantly plump black woman with quite the perma-smile on her face. When she asked what we would like to drink I asked for some glasses of ice water. She proceeded to get out those dinky little cups they reserve for those of us non-soda drinkers and fill those with mostly ice (typical!) when she looked at me, smiled all huge and as she rubbed her own stomach asked "Girl, is you pregnant?" To which I replied yes. At this she reached for the largest cup they had and filled it to capacity with mostly water. As she handed it to me she said "You need to drink lots of water when you is pregnant. It is good for you! I hope you have a nice day." Although Andrew laughed at my desire for a picture I had to have one so I could try to remember this sweet woman's smile.
When we arrived in Tampa we got our bags and waited for the hotel shuttle. At this point I noticed the CANKLES I was now sporting around Florida. I kid you not my ankles were double their normal size at least. Up until that point I had never experienced that much discomfort in my feet. I should have taken a picture. Oh well, while we waited my sweet husband rubbed and massaged my (I'm sure sweaty and smelly) feet. By the time we were settled in our room my feet were dead and I was starving. Andrew propped up a pillow for my feet and took off on his own to find some food while I watched TV and had a gymnast rolling around in my stomach. I am so amazed at how this little baby knows just what to do, and when to do it, to get me out of a sour mood regarding pregnancy's more "unfortunate" side-effects! After a dinner of subway I crashed on the bed only to be disturbed my the frequent visits to the bathroom... (I think I spent more time doing that this whole trip than any other activity...lol!)
