Travel Log: Day 3

Monday, June 30, 2008: Day At Sea

Today was a wonderful day of doing almost nothing! This was a day I had been looking forward too for a long time. I just wanted to sit back and relax without having any real responsibilities for once :) In our group we were lucky enough to have a "host" who offered several "classes". His name is Dee Barrett, any of you who have ever gone to education week at BYU may recognize the name. If you are going I suggest you take the time for his classes, he is awesome! We had a class in the morning first about why we visit sacred sites and also a little about the tree of life and the role it plays in the ancient ruins. Apparently there are several different depictions of the vision, and we were lucky enough to be able to get a replica of one of them. This part was done by our main tour guide, David Beagley (who by the way has written a book about growing up in a polygamist family quite the read!) In the afternoon we took a class about the language of the Book of Mormon from Dee. I thought it was going to be about the ancient languages, but it was more about the manner of language that we use when speaking. The next time you read 1st Nephi look for how many times he uses the term "manner of language" and how he uses it. Sometimes he is referring to the language of the Spirit, other times maybe the language of complaining, etc. The main theme of this class was about where our hearts are. Do we pull our hearts away from others, especially those in our families, or do we continue to love no matter what? We were challenged to pay attention over the next 24 hours how many times we pulled our hearts away and what the circumstances were. Andrew and I started a running thing between us where if I started to get grumpy towards him he would begin to sing "Turn on your heart light" (That ridiculous Neil Diamond song from ET) and it would make me laugh and the mood would instantly brighten. Thank you honey for knowing how to lift up my spirits and keep me loving you always!

This night was one of two "formal" dinner nights. Being fat and pregnant my clothing options had limitations! I refused to spend a ton of money on a fancy dress that I may never have a need for again, so instead I found a nice black dress from Old Navy maternity (love this store!) and it turned out really nice (at least I think so...). Andrew wasn't too excited about the idea of a suit and tie, but he went along with it. He promises that next time we go on a cruise he will bring his Air Force Blues to wear for formal night...all I have to say is I love a man in uniform and his blues are, shall we say, very enticing:)

I think I'm going to like reading about your trip if you're going to be sharing about all of your classes! By the way, the "Is you pregnant?" story had me laughing out loud!
