The boys really wanted to go back out for some more geocaching fun so we decided to make it a more outdoorsy adventure this time. We made the short drive over to Sauvie Island with a list in hand of gps coordinates. We did it different this time where we tried to follow gps coordinates instead of going to caches that were pre-programmed into the gps. It made for a different sort of adventure trying to figure it out that way....maybe even a little fight or two? Anyways, it was a ton of fun and very muddy!
Jonathan "found" the first cache of the day, but he was really interested in his granola bar more.
Reagan spend a good amount of time asleep in the back pack carrier. Lucky dog!
Bird watching
There were a lot of times that I saw some pretty good photo ops...the only problem is that I couldn't get the lighting right ever! Oh, and the kids kept moving at the wrong times. In the end I think I got a few good ones.
There was sooooo much mud! There was one part of the trail where the mud was ankle deep. I was so grateful that I had made sure we all had on our boots. Mine used to be for more of a "fashion statement," but proved to be very functional as well:)
Jonathan was very excited when he first saw the mud because he thought it was chocolate. When we assured him that it wasn't he became concerned. This is the kid whose favorite word in the kitchen is "nakin" since he hates having anything on his hands or self. However, when he first walked through the mud and experienced that sucking sensation he was in love with the mud! He started to get mad when I would steer him around it and declare that he needs to go in the mud. We were all a muddy mess in the end. It was a blast!
I caught Adrian and Luke looking at the lake. We need to go back on a warmer and dryer day to find more of the caches and spend more time nature watching.
In the end we found only 3 of the caches we had listed. Andrew found one and I found two. The boys helped us look, but this time we found them first.
On the way back to the car all we were hearing about was how much a certain person's feet were hurting. Well, mommy had been carrying the baby carrier for over two hours and so the creative discipline was for that certain person to get a chance with that. He stopped complaining about his feet!
***Funny story to use to embarrass the boys with when they are older: being out in nature if the boys needed to relieve themselves there were plenty of places to go. Jonathan was adamant that he would not and could not "pee on da twee" so he held it the whole time. Obviously I was unable to utilize the "facilities" even though I needed to. The boys were struggling to understand why I wouldn't be able to. Their suggestions were quite helpful for future references though. My favorite was that in lieu of toilet paper I could just wiggle my waist. Funny, I never thought of that as an option....wonder how that would work?***
