A Simple Testimony

Last month Luke was assigned to give a talk in primary (the children's sunday school program of our church). He has been assigned a few times before, but it has always ended up being on Sunday's where he is with his mom. I was really excited for him to have this opportunity...him, not so much. He apparently hates speaking in front of people to the point of tears. He was adamant that he was not going to get up and speak in front of anyone. This of course was on Sunday morning and it was too late to cancel (well, too late to cancel according to my courtesy standards!) and so I was trying to convince him to just do a really short talk anyways. He wasn't having it. Adrian, upon hearing this discussion, said "I could give the talk for you Luke." And that was that. Here is the talk that Adrian wrote that morning:
The theme for this month is Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. Jesus and the Apostles went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. Jesus prayed for a long time and the Apostles fell asleep.
While Jesus prayed, he suffered greatly for the sins of all the people in the world--for all those who lived before and would live after Him. This includes you and I.
He suffered so much that he bled from every pore. Then he shook with sorrow for the sins of the world.
Jesus wants us to remember that he suffered for our sins. He wants us to live a righteous life. If we do sin, He wants us to repent, pray, and ask for forgiveness. The He wants us to choose the right. I bear my testimony that Jesus Christ is our Savior and He will always be our Savior. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
I was so impressed by Adrian's simple explanation of the atonement and what our Savior has done for us. It warms my heart to think that some of what I have been trying to teach him has been sinking in! When Adrian gave the talk Luke stood by his side to see what it was like to just stand up in front of others, but still didn't want to speak.
I have been thinking a lot about this simple example and how it can perfectly portray what our Savior does for us throughout our whole lives. There are things that we cannot do on our own (or that we are too afraid to do), but he is willing to step in and make up for what we cannot do. We can stand by His side and do all that we are able to do and He will do the rest. I am thankful for the tender mercies I am shown each day of my life. That I am able to have such wonderful children who teach me each day through their examples how to be more like the Savior.
