Escaped Artists

One day I went out to put the garbage cans at the curb and ended up being followed...
Jonathan opened the sliding screen in the back and then the side gate to find me.  He awesomely left the door open and Reagan managed to climb out and find the stash of chalk that had been left out.  I promise this all happened in less than 5 minutes.  How do they do it???
