First official chore

I am a firm believer in the value of work and working together.  Don't get me wrong...there were plenty of times as a youth/teenager that I absolutely hated doing any work around the house.  I may have even accused my parents of only have children so that they could make them do everything.  Oh, how little did I know!  Now I am so grateful for the work we did growing up and the things that I learned from doing it.  I honestly believe that I have been more successful in my work outside of the home because of it.
Fast-forward to motherhood.  I expect these kids to pull their weight and do what they can;)  The hardest part is getting the olders to understand that the youngers cannot be held to the same level of expectation or given the same amount/type of work to do!  Lately I have noticed that Jonathan and Reagan are showing a lot more interest in what I do each day and finding ways to "help."  Laundry is a never ending chore that constantly needs to be done.  It is something that I actually find relaxing at times with the sorting and organizing aspect, but it definitely gets old!  Now when the dryer is done I get the basket down and Jonathan has to take the clothes out of the dryer and push it down the hall to my room.  Reagan follows behind and picks up any clothes that fall out of the basket.  It is so cute!
Here's my little worker:

Notice the goggles on his head?  He would not take those off for hours!
If Adrian is home then he picks his clothes out of the basket to fold and put away.  Jonathan "folds" some of his clothes.  Mainly they just get rolled up in strange ways, but I praise his efforts and he beams with his supposed success.  After everything is folded I sort his stuff by category and he runs back and forth from his room to mine putting his clothes away.  Reagan is in charge of putting her panties in the bathroom drawer and then "helps" Jonathan with anything he drops.

Make sure you notify the authorities because there are times my children seem to think that I am asking too much of them.  The best is when my kids will ask me if I will clean their room for them "next" while I am cleaning something else.  Or when they are "out" of socks or underwear because they are all over their room or they haven't sorted out their dirty clothes ALL WEEK.  That is why I love that my laundry room door says "for same day service do it yourself."  Someday I hope my children will appreciate all the hard work I make them do;)

I know what you mean. We have certain Saturdays that are "work days" (in addition to regular chores) where we do some sort of home improvement or plant the garden or whatever it is. And the kids act like we're slave drivers. (Some more than others.) I, too, hope that someday they appreciate learning to work. They don't appreciate it now. :)
