Randomness of May

Hey, did you know that May is over?!  Well, I do now:)  I mean I knew what the date was, but it really didn't register...  Seriously, where did May go?  June holds a lot of exciting things and I am totally ready for it, but I sometimes wish that I could grab hold of time and slow it down!

Here are a few highlights from May that I never got around to documenting (not surprised...)

*We spent hours and hours working in our yard.  We have some big plans, but we also know that some of those plans have to wait...like that set of furniture that I am totally coveting;)  We pulled a bazillion weeds, got the grass finally healthy and full again, spread bag after bag of mulch, built a small wall around the tree in the back, planted our garden (cucumbers, tomatoes, beans, spinach, and lettuce), and we decided to add another tree to the front yard:

We are so excited to have our own plum tree!  Someday we will be able to eat plums until we are sick of them.

*Speaking of eating: we finally had our first BBQ of the year!  We have since had another one and decided that it was time for our own little fire pit in the back so we got a small pit to have for fires and the all important s'mores making.  Andrew has been fine tuning his grill master skills and we have been getting more adventurous in our options.  My favorite new thing so far this year was grilled asparagus.  All I can say is where have I been that I've never had asparagus grilled?!  I could not get enough of it!

*I finally organized our garage!  Winter months are hard.  The garage gets cold and I lose all desire to do very much out there besides chuck stuff out there wherever I can find a place for it.  All the DIY projects we've been doing have involved a lot of tools and other materials that sadly have not been finding their way back to an organized home.  It has been my greatest source of frustration, but felt so overwhelming that I didn't want to tackle it.  Procrastination never brings resolution to frustrating "to dos" it seems;)  I decided to give myself 3 days to do it.  I spent HOURS going through box after box, reorganizing shelves, and I totally had the "donate," "trash," and "give away" piles.  It felt so good to purge all of that stuff!  I even took the time to take everything off of shelves and actually put like with like.  Now all of the camping stuff is together!  I didn't realize that I had totally started just putting stuff wherever it would fit instead of where it would be the most logical place out of momentary convenience.  The trick is getting the other members of this household to put things away WHERE THEY GO.  I think you can all understand that!  I have before pictures, but I am waiting to get rid of a few more "big" things out there and then I will be able to take some real "after" pictures and I cannot wait!  We have a ton of short pieces of 2x4s left over from making the beds that the kids discovered make for some pretty cool blocks to play with:

It was not an easy task to work on the garage with my "little helpers," but I did it!

Stay tuned for more about the final days of May and watch out for some pretty cool stuff coming up in June!

(hints: someone turns 12, the living room gets a major makeover, and schools out for summer!)
