After we ran the race on the morning of the 4th, Andrew's sister Crystal and her family came out to our house for the day. It was so much fun! It has been a long time since we were able to spend time with them one on one. It's amazing how much time can pass when life is so busy. We had a BBQ at our house and spent several hours visiting. After a little bit we headed over to my parent's house for more food and fireworks. Can you believe that I only got these 2 pictures the whole day?!
I will just blame being tired from getting up so early to run a 5k;)
This year our town decided to not have a fireworks display on the 4th so we decided to buy some decent fireworks of our own to blow up. I've always said that you may as well take some money and light it on fire, but it's a lot less entertaining to watch your money burn than see a firework explode!
My dad really wanted some festive food so told him I would make a flag out of fruit kabobs--he was pleased with the results. I also made the orange sherbet ice cream dessert that my Grandma used to make every year on the 4th--it is so yummy!
After lots of food (and of course some s'mores) we headed out front for some fireworks. Andrew and Grandpa had a little competition going to see who would have the best show. I think they tied. Nothing celebrates the birth of your country like blowing crap up!
