So, I had every intention of actually taking the kids to go berry picking this year. I really wanted to do that with them! However, life being what it is we never made it out. The strawberry season was a little lame in June this year so before I knew it the picking time was over:( We had very little sun in May/early June so the berries didn't come on the same as they normally do...at least that's how I understood it. Instead I ordered berries through a local school teacher who spends his summer bringing fruit from all over to the Portland area. I made an insane amount of jam last summer so my goal this year was to have berries in the freezer for the year (I can dream can't I?) I would have ordered more, but Andrew pointed out (quite accurately) that there was no more room in the freezers! The kids loved helping me eat some of the berries and I even got some cherries that they helped me to pit. I love this time of year when all of the fruits and veggies are ready to be eaten and preserved. August will be the month of canning around here with peaches, pears, and salsa coming out of my ears--I love it!
