In the last while there have been several things that my little Jonathan has said and done that I find hilarious. I want to remember them and remind him when he is older about all the silly things he would do.
When he was dressed for Ashleigh's wedding he was such a handsome little guy with his knickers, suspenders, bow tie, argyle socks, and cap. I convinced him that if anyone tells him that he is "handsome" or "cute" he is supposed to tell them "thank you, but I'm dapper." It was hilarious listening to him try and remember to tell people that. Sometimes he would just pre-preemptively go up to someone and say "hey, I'm dapper!" and smile at me. As cute as that was the best moment came when it was time to go to the bathroom and he said "mom, how am I supposed to do this? Do I just take my knickers off?" as he's pointing to his suspenders. After that I had to work with him on two important things: #1) the difference between suspenders and knickers and the appropriate way to work with them to use the bathroom and #2) the proper way to pronounce "knickers." Let's just say I was glad we were alone in a bathroom when he made his first attempt...
Last week I took the kids to the library for reading time. The children's librarian had a little alphabet matching game he put together. The kids were supposed to match together the capital and lower case letters for a-g. Once Jonathan realized what they were supposed to be doing he was all over it. When the librarian (whom my children refer to as "library teacher") complimented him on his knowledge of the alphabet he said "yeah, I learned all my letters and stuff from umizoomi on my grandma's tv." What?! I have spent hours teaching that kid his alphabet and the credit goes where? A tv show he has seen a few times at grandma's house. Grrr. So of course the next day when I was doing preschool with him I asked him how he has gotten so smart. He smiled and said "umizoomi. I've learned everything that I need to know to be smart from umizoomi. My grandma's tv is so much better than ours." I love the irony of the fact that as he's telling me that he learns everything he needs to know from a television show I am the one teaching him things he needs to know. Whatever kid.
At lunch one day he took a bite of his food and got a really strange look on his face. He looked at me and said out of nowhere "Mom! If you ever see a dragon you should just train it. Yeah. That's what you need to do. Just train it and it will be my favorite." If he was a big "How to Train Your Dragon" fan I would get the reference, but he is not. I don't know that he has ever sat through the entire movie. What a weirdo:)
The cutest thing he has done in a while though has to be what he did in the parking lot of WinCo last week. We were walking to the van and he was running along side me. He yelled out to me "Mom! Slow down I can't catch your shadow very well!" I looked over at him and he was running holding his arms in a circle trying to make his shadows arms go around my neck. I asked him why he was trying to catch my shadow and he told me he was just trying to give me a shadow hug. I immediately stopped and dropped down to his level and told him he was the sweetest little boy in the world. I said my shadow loved getting hugs, but the best hugs were real ones and I gave him a big fat one right there. He squeezed me tight and laughed that he loved me better than all the moms in the world. Well, I love him better than any other little preschool boys in the world too;) (Sorry, if you have a preschool boy I'm sure I like him, but I just don't love him best--that's your job!)
Lately Jonathan has been obsessed with super heroes. Andrew found a spider man costume at a thrift store that Jonathan would live in if I let him. This is a picture of him after he learned about Peter Parker. These are some of his "Peter Parker clothes" since he wears them over the costume. Last week I also found a Superman t shirt that used to be Luke's and Jonathan freaked out over it. The best is when he wears his spider man costume, the superman t shirt and his red "J" cape I made last year for him. Anyone want to guess what the theme for this year's Halloween costumes is? Anyone??? I do need to be a little careful though...I draw the line at 3 days and 2 nights in the same super hero get-up;)
