Hero Punch

Jonathan is crazy.
I've told enough stories about him that this should come as no surprise.
But, despite his craziness he really is a sweet little boy with a kind and gentle heart.
That might be hard to believe considering how he flips out when he gets upset about something. Especially when that something is his little sister. I've always been fascinated by the way that siblings interact with each other. I have 10 of them so I have some experience in this department! Siblings can pick on each other and treat each other less than angelic no problem, but if anyone else tries to do it you better watch out. I also love the dynamic of older siblings watching out for younger ones. I have one older sister whom I love dearly, but I looove the fact that my boys came first and that my little girl has 3 older brothers who have her back no matter what! We try to discourage fighting in our home, but anyone with boys knows that there is some measure of physical "fighting" that is just part of how little boys play. I have told my boys that under no circumstances are they allowed to get in fights at school...unless it is to defend themselves or in looking out for their little sister. I'm wondering if I need to rethink my stance...

Yesterday we were having lunch with our friends. I love these lunches! After we eat the kids run off and play and us moms get to socialize using grown up words and talking about grown-up stuff (mostly). My friend's home is beautiful and has an upstairs where the kids usually go play. We can hear them--the occaisional "hey that's not fair!" and crying does take place and then there's a pause in conversation to determine if it's a real cry or if they can work it out on there own then. At one point one of my friend's boys started crying from upstairs. When she calls up to see what's wrong he says "Jonny punched me in the face!" I called my kids down. Reagan was crying all the way down the stairs and all I could hear while they made the trek down the stairs was Jonathan's little words of comfort "It's okay Reagan. Don't cry. It's okay." Now I'm really confused! What the hey is going on up there?! I got down to Jonny level and here's what we said:
M: Did you punch B?
J: Yup.
M: Why would you do that? You know that we don't punch--especially in the face!
J: Well, he called Reagan hairy so I was all "don't call her hairy" and I hero punched him in the face!! (said while acting out an upper cut)
M: (trying not to laugh) I appreciate that you were trying to defend your sister, but you really shouldn't punch people in the face. You need to let the moms know when something is wrong and we will take care of it. Go say sorry.

Andrew has been playing "Punch Hero" on his phone lately...Jonny calls it "Hero Punch" and really enjoys watching. I think it may be time to put a stop to that:)
