Kidney "crumbs"

Well, I guess you could say that I now know I can handle childbirth. Yesterday morning I woke up with some pain in my right side. It got worse over the next couple of hours to the point I was unable to move without crying. The pain was so intense I also couldn't keep anything down. Finally by 11:30 I called Andrew at work and told him he needed to take me to the hospital. I went to Providence Portland and was admitted right away. I guess a pregnant woman with any sort of abdominal pain is "fast-tracked." By 2:45 I was hooked up to monitors and had an IV placed to give me fluids since I was severely dehydrated. All I wanted though were some pain meds! Enter demerol. I cannot say that I enjoyed the meds, but it was nice to finally have some relief. At first they suspected a kidney infection, but I had no fever and my blood work showed no signs of infection. Then they said kidney stones. I had to have an ultrasound done to see if they could find the stones. They couldn't find them, but that didn't mean they weren't there. They decided to keep me overnight to monitor me and keep me hooked up to fluids since I still couldn't keep anything down. My dear sweet husband was so good through all of this. I know I was being a crabby insane lady in pain to him and he handled it well :) The pain finally really stopped sometime in the middle of the night and about 3 am I started passing "stones." I don't know if you are aware but these stones are the size of grains of sand! I am so upset that they were so small and caused me so much pain. I was glad that they passed though since that would mean that I wouldn't have to have a stint placed which was going to be the course of treatment taken this morning if needed. Apparently kidney stones are pretty common in pregnancy, just another one of those little joys we get to experience to bring babies into the world I guess. My fingers are crossed that this is the only time I ever have to endure that. I have a 50% chance they will continue to plague me over the next 12 weeks...My nurse says that those kidney stones remind her of crumbs. All I know is that I hate those little buggers!

You poor thing. That had to have been really scary for you. I am glad that you are ok and that the "crumbs" weren't bigger.

I'm so sorry! I'm glad they were able to pass and I hope you get some well deserved rest today! Maybe do some reading? I have the book if you want to borrow it:)

I had a kidney stone once, I just about passed out from the pain! I would much rather go through another child birth then have a kidney stone. Well I hope they don't keep coming. And just a note did you know that supposedly we are dehydrated all the time? I swear I drink like 10 huge glasses of water a day and they would still hook me up to an IV! but I know barfing does that to someone also. Anyway glad your better. I love your bebe furniture.
