I guess you could say that everyone has been getting some sort of sewing bug lately... aprons, purses, and whatever else. A few months back my mom had given me a car seat baby blanket/wrap thing (I don't know what it is technically called) that she had used for Autumn. This was before we knew baby's gender, the one she gave me is lavender. Once I found out baby is a boy I knew I would have to either scrap the idea of it or make a new one. I am pretty proud of myself at this point because I used the existing one as a pattern and whipped a couple out yesterday. I made one for a friend of mine who's baby shower is on Saturday and she is having a girl. Hers is lavender fleece on the outside and the inside is lavender with ladybugs flannel. The one I made for baby Jonathan is charcoal gray fleece and light blue with fire trucks flannel. Adrian was fascinated watching the pieces fit together to make something and the whir of the sewing machine. It made me think back to when I was a little kid and I loved watching my mom sew, especially when she had to wind the bobbin. Now that is one of my favorite things to do. Anyways here are my creations (don't look too close at the mistakes!):
The idea is that the arm flaps fit through the car seat straps so baby can still be buckled in properly, but you can then keep them all bundled up over it.
Andrew said I should start a business of making them, in his mind anyone who can sew is one of the most gifted people on earth. His suggestion for my next sewing project: the ultimate Boba Fett costume for Halloween for him to wear...whatever!
