Something to live by...

"Come what may and love it!"
I have to say that I enjoyed conference this weekend, at least the moments that I got to actually listen with all the chaos around! I watched all 4 sessions this time and it was really nice to get to learn about what the prophets are concerned about for this day. I am always amazed that they never really teach us anything "new" but yet it seems to strike me as "new" based on how I hear it or what is going on in my life at the time.
I think I gained the most this time from Joseph B. Wirthlin's talk on Saturday afternoon. He shared something his mother taught him: come what may and love it. I have decided this is my motto for living the next 6 months. I tend to live in a high stress fashion, not because I have to, but just because I am wound a little tight and like things a certain way. With the very soon arrival of a new baby my life will most certainly be turned upside down, my choice will be how I handle it and my daily attitude. Elder Wirthlin shared the 4 ways to apply this principle of loving what comes as follows: 1) Laugh- we can always find a way to laugh about what is going on 2)Seek for the eternal- don't focus so much on today and tomorrow's problems, think about the eternal perspective of life 3) Understand the principle of compensation- this is one I had never thought about before, but when we experience "trials" in life we will be compensated for them beyond what we expect/deserve 4) Put our trust in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ- no explanation needed! I hope that I can take these next days, weeks, months, years, and decades and cherish the moments of each day and follow this principle of "come what may and love it!"
Along the same lines I really enjoyed President Thomas S. Monson's talk on Sunday morning. He talked about how nothing is as constant as change and how we need to find joy in the journey-NOW. There will be no tomorrow to remember if we don't do something today. Don't dwell on the past. Let us relish life as we live it. Andrew poked me in the side when Pres. Monson said to not worry so much about finger prints on the windows toys not put in their place, because we will miss them someday when they are gone. Okay I get it, I have a problem with OCD like tendencies! This did make me think of a story my mom told me about my grandmother though: my mom went to visit in California with one of my little sisters and after they left my grandma told my mom that she still hadn't cleaned the coffee table where my sister's hand print remained because she like to look at each day to remember her. How cute is that?
Here is to living life by my new motto! Come what may and love it!

Thanks for these thoughts and the recap from conference. I haven't had a chance to watch the Saturday afternoon session yet, but we recorded it and will be watching it soon I hope. But what I was able to watch from this conference I truly enjoyed. I felt that I kept getting all teary eyed all the time and even with Porter running around and being a bundle of energy I was still able to totally feel the spirit. I love how energized I feel after conference!
