Tonight was Jonathan's baby blessing. We decided to do things a little different from the status quo and we had the blessing at my parents' house after church. Those in attendance were family members and some of our friends from church. We had the blessing today because my Grandparents are visiting from California and I wanted my Papa John to be able to stand in the circle. It was a very neat experience although I think my husband will be in the dog house for a very long time...Would you believe that he said the wrong name?! He blessed the baby as Jon instead of Jonathan. As far as we can figure that means that on the church records his name will be different from his legal name. They are looking into this for me though. Andrew swears it wasn't on purpose, but I think he secretly did it on purpose since he has always wanted the name to be simply Jon and this is how he got his way;) I guess now we have a fun story to tell Jonathan when he is older: his father doesn't know his name!
Jonathan, your blessing truly was a special experience. I was overcome by the spirit and the knowledge that you are not only my son, but you are a child of God. You were blessed that you would hold close to the gospel, follow the teachings of the prophets, and be an example to those around you as you live the gospel. There was more, but for the life of me all I can remember was how I felt. We started off with singing "Families Can Be Together Forever" and I was overwhelmed with the feelings of gratitude that fill my heart. There are not words adequate enough to express the love I have for you and how thankful I am that Heavenly Father trusts me enough to be your mother. You have so much of life ahead of you and I am excited to help you along the way as you grow in the gospel and in life. I love you and so does your father. Look to your dad for the example of how to become an amazing man. You can learn a lot from him-he has experienced so much. Always remember that he is willing and able to bless you whenever you need it. We love you!
P.S. I typed this whole thing one-handed because Jonathan is being a fuss-bucket mama's boy right now:)
Those standing in the circle: Dad, Grandpa Dave, Grandpa Stott, Papa John, Bishop Johnstun, Bro. Endicott, Bro. Munger, Nick Durant, Eric Carmen, and Dirk Kearsley.

Sweet. Moments you will treasure forever. What a little cutie!
How nice that you were able to bless him while your grandparents were in town!
As far as the naming goes...:) That happened to my grandpa. His mother wanted a Robert so he could be called "Bobby" but when his grandfather was blessing him, he gave him the name of Emanuel Gayle! His mother still called him Bob:)
Thank you for inviting us. I am so glad we are friends.
It was so sweet to be there at the baby blessing. I wish we could have stayed longer but Casey had another appointment (that man!) Thanks though for inviting us. He's a beautiful baby.
Congrats on the blessing...what a sweet tribute to him too. What a lucky little guy to have such a sweet and loving family!
