Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin

Our beloved apostle passed away last night at the age of 91. He apparently passed away in his sleep, which if you ask me is the way to go. I was so moved by his talk this past conference: "Come What May and Love It" and I remember wondering how much longer we would be blessed to have him as an apostle. Unfortunately this past conference was the last time that we heard from him in this life. I am so thankful that he was able to deliver that talk at conference though because it changed my way of looking at life and the circumstances around me. I am so thankful that we have living prophets on the earth today and that they are able to deliver the messages that God would have us hear. I am thankful that the priesthood was restored and that there are men on the earth today that live their lives that they may be worthy to hold the priesthood of God. I am thankful that those same men are willing to sacrifice so much in their lives in order to travel the world in service to the people they love and teach. Although Elder Wirthlin will be greatly missed I am grateful that he lived the life he did and that now he is able to be with his wife again who passed away in 2006. May we all remember him and what he taught us, especially that we will live everyday with this in mind: "Come what may and love it!"

Wow, I didn't know he had passed away. Usually my mom calls me right away when anything like this happens - she must be slacking. What's funny is that just last week my visiting teacher used that very talk by him for this month's visiting teaching message. It was a very powerful talk - I loved it!

When I heard the news this morning I was taken back as well, thinking so much of that last talk he gave, and feeling so thankful that he was able to share such an inspiring message before he left this life. He will be missed.
