Adrian started 4th grade this year and Luke started 1st grade. I will find out from Luke this weekend how things have been going, but I am sure he is doing just fine. Adrian was really sad that school was starting again. He has struggled with school these past few years and I know it isn't easy for him. Adrian had a really poor school experience before he lived with us and I don't think he has forgotten all the things he went through. That being said, he has come leaps and bounds from where he was and we are soooo proud of him! Last year was the first year he was at the same school for the whole school year which would have been better if he hadn't had the permanent sub from lala land for the better part of the year, but enough about that!
Adrian was really sad looking in the morning before he left, but when he got home he was all smiles and loved his first day!!! His teacher did some magic tricks for them and therefore he is officially the coolest teacher in the world. Mr. K is an amazing teacher and I have my fingers crossed that this will be the year that Adrian finds successes to build on and strengthens his ability to learn. I have to be honest and admit that I struggle to relate to Adrian's learning habits because I was one who loved going to school and loved learning new things. I was eager to please my teachers and did all the extra work I could (I know=total NERD!) My goal this year is to help him as he asks, but to really get him to see that he passes and fails simply by making choices that only he is responsible for.
We are one week in and I am happy to report that he has come home smiling everyday with nothing but good things to say!
We had our special FHE on the Sunday night before school started where the boys got their father's blessings. I should have journaled that sooner since I am already forgetting what was said! Both of their blessings were so good--I am always amazed at the feelings I get that those blessings come from our Father in Heaven who knows all things and knows what we need. Luke was blessed that he would continue to be successful in school and that he would be able to follow the promptings of the Spirit to be a good example to those around him and to be a leader among his peers. Adrian was blessed to have a desire to learn and to remain focused. He was blessed to do well and to have a patience and love of learning.
Here is to a great year!
