Last week was Adrian's pine wood derby. He was really excited to participate this year and had some pretty involved plans for car designs in the beginning. Last year Andrew helped Adrian with pretty much every step and taught him how to make a winning car (that car took 1st place). This year Adrian's challenge was to take what he had learned and do it himself (well, mostly--some of the wood cutting he needed help with). He had 2 months to work on the car and ended up learning a lesson about procrastination, but he got it done. It was so cute. On the day of the race he said to me "well, my car may not look very nice, but it will work." I thought that was a very good observation. He had a lot of fun at the race and cheered all his friends on. In the end his car placed 4th! He was so excited and I was so pleased with how well he did when his car lost. He had the very mature attitude that he got to win last year and so it was someone else's turn. He is already planning what he will do for next year and now understands a little better about how much work is involved. I think he will do just as well if not better in the years ahead. Way to go Adrian!
