Jonathan and Reagan

I said I would do a post on how Reagan was fitting in with Jonathan and I am just now getting to it:) For the most part Jonathan does really well with her. However, it was a bit sketchy at first as to how he would do with her. This is the story of their first meeting:
Andrew brought Jonathan and Adrian up to the hospital to meet their new baby sister on Thursday, July 29th when he got done with school. He brought them in the room and set Jonathan down on my bed. Jonathan looked at me weird and then his lower lip turned down as he looked at his feet. I tried to give him a hug and he just started to cry. I asked him if he wanted to hold the new baby and he cried no and climbed down from the bed. Once he got down he ran to the door crying to go home. It was so sad and broke my heart. I was so sure that he would be all over the baby and love her to pieces so I was totally unprepared for this reaction! It took us a few minutes to calm him down and it took him about 20 minutes to get up the desire to have anything to do with the baby. Since that day however, he has warmed up considerably and loves his new little sister. Adrian and Luke of course had no problem loving the new baby! They were both so excited to finally have a little sister:)
Jonathan has become more of a "helper" everyday: pouring out shampoo bottles, ripping up library books, getting food out of the fridge, and just destroying things in general! I can't help but love the little booger though. He has gotten a little more cuddly, but he usually wants to cuddle when I am nursing the baby--if not cuddle he wants to hold her and can't understand why I won't let him....Lately he will watch her nurse with the look of "this seems familiar, but I can't figure out why" on his face. He will say to me "momma, baby bite?" and then proceed to lift up his own shirt and point to his stomach and repeat his request to let the baby bite his tummy. It is too cute!
Reagan has found her place in our family and has been the easiest baby so far. She sleeps well, nurses well and has an overall cheerful disposition when she is awake. She is by far an easier baby than Jonathan ever was! Reagan had her 2 week appointment last Thursday and had gained a whole pound in a week...I think it is all in her cheeks! She was up to 8 lbs. 12 oz. and is probably more than that now. I spend so much time everyday just looking at her and being amazed at how much of a miracle babies truly are. Now, if only I could bottle up her sweetness and keep her from ever becoming a bratty teenager;)

That experience with Jonathan crying and wanting to leave would have totally broken my heart, too! :( I am glad that he has done better. That is great. Sometimes I have to wonder if it isn't a little freaky for kids to know their mom had to go to the hospital. The whole thing must be so weird. I'm glad that she is so good-natured. My boys were both like that. And, you never know... she may NOT grow up to be a bratty teenager. Not all of them do. So we can keep our fingers crossed. :)
