The original plan was to leave for CA bright and early on Saturday the 28th, but Andrew called on his way home from work on Friday night and said he felt like we should just leave that night and we could stop for sleep if we needed it to just get on our way. We ended up leaving Friday night just after 10pm. The kids slept pretty well despite their excitement and we made pretty good time despite our exhaustion and sleep breaks! On Saturday we stopped for about an hour to have breakfast at Denny's (a treat for the kids!) and had a few potty breaks and stops between that and when we stopped to have lunch. Using our fabulous GPS we found a small park to stop at and have lunch (can't remember where?) The park was pretty nice--that is until we discovered the bazillion fire ants that had nests all around the perimeter of the play area and tunnels throughout the sand! Luckily we discovered the ants and made our way out of there prior to anyone getting bit. Here is a picture of the boys on the tire swing so grateful for a break from driving!
We decided to keep going and ended up stopping about 3:30 in Firebough, CA for the night. We found a hotel there and in no time the boys were ready to take advantage of the swimming pool. Jonathan was quite upset to have to wear a life jacket, but the pool was too deep for him to not have one on. In the end it was a good thing he had it since once he overcame his initial fears he was jumping in on his own! We had a really good nights sleep and got ready to keep on truckin' in the morning:)
