To celebrate Andrew's successful completion of another term we decided to take advantage of a rare "day off" and go on a little family outing to the Pittock Mansion in Portland. Adrian and Luke had school so we just had the little ones with us. It turned out to be quite the day!
We started off at the Pittock Mansion and got to see all the Christmas decor. In my opinion the decorations weren't that great, but I have my own taste so whatever. We borrowed a backpack carrier from our fabulous friend, Heidi, so that Jonathan could be safely kept around all the breakables. It was so funny how frustrated he was getting that he couldn't get Andrew to go where he wanted him to! He would lean towards where he wanted to go and say "Dada, go der!" in his most annoyed and frustrated tone ever. We asked a woman to take our picture on the staircase as a family and she was seriously struggling like she had never taken a picture before and they turned out blurry and crappy. In the end we just took them of each other.
After the Pittock Mansion we were on a mission to find Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland and try it out. We eventually found it and walked there after parking by Pioneer Square. We got the maple bar with bacon on it, a dirt donut (the best frosting and crushed up oreos ever!), and the memphismafia fritter (chocolate drizzle, peanut butter, peanuts, and chocolate chips). After a scrumptious lunch at Chipotle we ate our treats--well, since Andrew's fritter was the size of his head he couldn't finish it and decided to give what was left to Adrian.
In the end it was such a fun day...despite the disagreement about what constitutes "Downtown Portland." I can't resist polling the audience:
Does "Downtown Portland" refer to
a) the general water front area
b) anything between the Willamette river and the west hills (including NW 23rd and the Pearl)
c) the surrounding areas of the Willamette river with bridge access
d) South of Burnside, North of PSU, West of the Willamette river and East of I-405
{I wish you could see the rolling eyes of my husband as I tell him about this poll!}

Hmm... I don't think I can even vote. I was a Washingtonian, even so close by, and I really didn't go into Portland so much, so I don't have a vote. sorry...
Your day sounds SO fun!! I always hate people who can't take a decent picture. It is NOT that hard. Gr.
I actually saw a piece on the food network about this voodoo doughnut place. very weird. but cool. I have no idea what constitutes "downtown Ptld" anymore. Growing up it was pioneer square and all the surrounding stores...Nordstroms, galleria,etc... I don't even know where some of the places are that you mentioned.
