Seattle, WA
April 29-30, 2011
I was so blessed to be able to attend TOFW in Seattle this year. I really needed the break and it was perfect! I got to go with my mom and 3 of my best friends: Heidi, Julie, and Kate. Kate was able to get us an amazing deal so we got to stay at the "W" hotel and it was pretty swanky;) We had so much fun just hanging out together and then getting uplifted at the conference. Thank you Andrew for stepping up so I could have this time!
If you read my other blog then some of my notes may be redundant, but here is a more complete compilation of my notes from the conference. Hopefully, even though the context is missing, the thought will be there still!
John Bytheway-
We become what we think about.
Everything that really needs to be done in our souls, will be done by God.
*Every clean thought becomes you. Every clean thought becomes you.*
Seek after good things.
Sacrament prayer: "with them." We are never alone!
1. We can trust in the Lord through prayer. Psalm 51:10
2. We can give our lives to God through service. Doc. & Cov. 84:88--Angels around us
3. We can forgive. Mark 11:25-26--It is not the condition that people are in that produces happiness. It is how we respond to the conditions.
4. Hold on to the rod. Helaman 5:12 and Doc. & Cov. 68:6
Dean Hughes-
The scriptures teach us to be better than ourselves not to be better than others.
"This is one of those times."
Do we act as though life is a contest?
You can never start comparing without deciding you are worthless.
Get in control of the emotions that don't do us any good.
*We become what we want to be by consistently being what we want to become.*
It'okay to be average.
We can't trick our minds into being perfect. Only the Spirit can change us.
Don't worry about being a "man's man" and work to be the "Lord's man."
When we're meek we are like Christ.
Mercy River-
Everything will be okay eventually, but that doesn't make everything okay right now.
We all need saving sometimes.
Deanne Flynn-
Mothering is a mindset.
Mothering is the selfless offering of one's heart to another living thing.
God will provide when we give our all.
Do I offer a "mother's mite?"
Mother's are significant in the "moment making" process.
Mother's mites are evidence of our families importance to us.
Mother's mites are times, talent, and example.
How can I create emotional floodlights?
1. be more aware (paying attention costs nothing, but the dividends are endless.)
2. Choose to become less complicated. (Make your self at home. Home is where the heart is. Moms are the heart of the home.)
3. Be polite and understanding
4. Choose to be more tender (Do I overlook greater efficiency for a greater priority? Titus 2:3-5. Women=teachers of good things.)
Choose to be a better keeper at home.
Make home Heavenly.
S. Michael Wilcox-
Knowledge and learning is the key to becoming.
There's nothing wrong with careful, cumbered, troubled lives; however, sometimes it is needful to sit and learn--to be fed.
Doc. & Cov. 25 Thy time shall be given to learning much.
Doc. & Cov. 50 receive light
Doc. & Cov. 93 grace for grace
Abraham: stairway (righteousness, knowledge, righteousness, knowledge, etc.)
Compass: the compass has 2 legs, it can draw a perfect circle. Find truth in it's most mature form--this lies in the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth and the restored gospel of Jesus Christ (fixed foot of compass). The other foot of the compass is the searching foot. Use this foot to draw in all the truth and goodness in the world.
When studying other religions remember 3 things:
1. never compare their best to their worst
2. always learn from one who lives and loves it
3. leave room in your heart for "holy envy" (there will always be someone who is better at something than you are, even if they are of a different faith.)
Reach for the honey!
Merilee Boyack-
Blazing your Own Trail
Become U!
Be bold
Eternally minded
Creative (Pres. Uchtdorf: finding a fullness of joy=creating)
Outward-focused (We have nurturing hearts.)
Meek (be tuned to the Lord to follow His will. Love and be humble.)
Enlightened (Stand for the Family)
Unique (follow our unique paths)
Emily Freeman-
Have the name of Christ written in our hearts.
Paul almost persuaded King Agrippa.
Almost persuaded vs. altogether committed
What does it mean to go from desire to consecration?
We must become altogether committed to the Lord to write the name of the Lord in our hearts.
Keep back nothing.
1. Our journey will be hard.
2. The journey will become a testimony.
3. We need to settle that testimony in our hearts.
"No Never" moments
You are worth it.
I am His. He will not forget me. I am engraven on the palms of His hands.
"Choose to Become" closer to the Lord.
I know that these notes probably only make sense to myself, but hopefully there are bits that may help others in their lives. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity that I had to attend with some of my dear friends that we could be uplifted together! Thank you TOFW for an amazing weekend.
