Since we are now a family with an eleven year old boy in it, we get to experience the joys of Boy Scout camping. Adrian was looking forward to the 11-year old scout camp put on by our church for months. He was so excited that it involved an over-night stay! Since our family has a "no sleepovers" rule this was a special treat for him.
It was so cute helping Adrian get ready for the camp by going over the packing list. He must have read the list out loud about 10 times. Each time he would say the item and then say "check" or "not check." The best was that on the list it said "flashlight (batteries)" and Adrian was sure this meant he needed to bring extra batteries. I assured him that the brand new batteries in the flashlight would be adequate for a single nights use. He was still skeptical. This was how he reviewed his list after that:
"Sleeping bag......check. Pillow......check. Flashlight......check. Extra batteries......(while staring right at me and with some serious almost teenager attitude) not check."
It was hilarious! Like he was sure he would be in need of a backpack full of batteries and I was about to totally ruin the whole experience by not having him put some in his bag.
We were really excited to have Adrian come home and tell us all about the fires that he helped start and the various things he did with his pocketknife. Jonathan was especially excited.
Jonathan waiting for Adrian on the bench in the front yard with the binoculars so he could see him first.
Yay! He's home!
There's our Boy Scout.
Jonathan stole the camelback before I could get it washed out. That kid was sucking it down!
And little miss Reagan was caught red-handed getting into Adrian's legos. I love this look "who me? I was getting this for you...."

How exciting. I'm glad he had a good time. The picture of Jonathan waiting for him is so cute!! Very sweet. The checklist made me laugh. My scout (14 yr. old) is exactly the opposite. He has no use for a checklist whatsoever. He would prefer to stumble around in the dark without a flashlight at all, and sleep in the same clothes he wore there (even if they got wet during an activity). He is the kind who learns from experience (and not from a mother's opinion or wisdom), so I let him just learn through it. Needless to say, packing takes him about 4 minutes. I'm glad Adrian went so well-prepared! :)
Ahh, the joys of scouting! Just you wait!! So funny you mention the battery issue. The twins will be leaving for a scout camp this coming Monday. They will be gone a week. We just gave them each their own air matresses earlier this year, therefore they are bringing the pump with them to camp. Kevin was putting 5 new D batteries in a bag to take with them in case the pump dies!(Pump only needs 4) Hahaha! I said, listen we just bought that pump a couple months ago and you have used it maybe 10 times, you will not run out of battery! Kevin says, "but a scout is always prepared" Ugh! How do you argue with that? He'll learn his lesson when he realizes how heavy his bag is!
