Kickin' Brass to the Curb!

One of the main reasons I have been a total slacker in a lot of areas in my life is the home improvement projects we can't seem to finish:) Luckily we have made some good progress and will even be getting new carpets next week!!!!! (Can you tell I am excited?!)
When we moved into this house there were a few things that I absolutely hated from the beginning. A lot of those things have been addressed, but the one thing that hung around for toooooo long was all the brass door knobs. I hate shiny and blinding brass. Hate it. There was a hideous brass chandelier in the kitchen when we bought the house and my dad helped me switch it out the first week we lived here. It had to go. In addition to replacing the hardware on the doors we wanted to replace the doors with white 6 panel ones. When my "little" brother punched a hole in one of the doors (I still don't know what the reason for it was....) I used that as the excuse to get the ball rolling. We switched out the first of the doors last fall.......and only finished up last month. Procrastination fueled by lack of time with a helping hubby is no bueno. It didn't help that the old doors were 29 3/4" wide and the new ones are 30" wide. In most things 1/4" isn't a big deal, but when dealing with a door it means you can't shut it! We got some tips from some experienced friends and the doors all shut.

Okay, so I guess I should confess that the doors aren't 100% finished. I still have to caulk the edges of the trim and even replace some of the trim that became casualties of the battle. Oh yeah, and the sliding closet doors are yet to be dealt with.....If you are wondering how to deal with yucky shiny faux wood finished trim and not replace it all your bff should be Zinser's 1-2-3 primer. Fabulous stuff! A couple coats of that and you don't even have to sand the trim.

Maybe in a year or two I will have the caulking finished.....
