New Carpets....Finally!!!!

I had a dream come true last month...
I finally have new carpets in all 3 bedrooms!
When we moved into our house (4 years ago) one of my only requests/demands was that we replace the carpets. Throughout the living room, hallways, and one of the bedrooms there was this ugly dark blue with grey marbling slightly shaggy carpet and in the other 2 bedrooms there was a light grey/cream carpet. The blue nasty had to go asap in my opinion, but as it goes with most home improvement projects asap really isn't "asap!"
When I was pregnant with Jonathan we ripped out the carpets in the main part of the house and put in laminate wood flooring (which I love) and at that time, 3 years ago, we were going to get the carpets in the rooms replaced with new carpets and better pads.
The idea of moving all the furniture out of the bedrooms overwhelmed me and the fear of dealing with hiring someone to do it held me back. However, I am happy to report that I finally did it! Well, with a lot of help from my family, WE did it!
I was referred to Generic Carpets by my friend Aundrea and I am so happy that I went with them! I was able to get a really good deal on the carpet that I wanted and she even dealt with special ordering it from Georgia for me! (I wanted a very specific carpet and since we will not be moving any time in the immediate future I wanted it done my way. That's just how I roll;))
As it turned out the week of the carpet installation project was while Andrew was in Oklahoma dying in a heat wave so I had my kids and a major project to undertake! THANK YOU, THANK YOU to my family for all their help!!!!
Here was our project schedule:
Friday- I worked until 1pm while my 4 kids were at Grandma's house. I picked up little miss, Adrian, and my brothers. Jonathan and Luke went to the pool with Grandma. Adrian went to visit his bio-mom and the boys helped me to move everything out of all the bedrooms.
Saturday- Chad and Luke helped me to rip out all the carpets and then while I painted they pulled up all the staples.
(There must be a law against child labor or something, right?)
I was so impressed with Chad and Luke! They had such a cheerful attitude and we had a blast doing our "demo" and prep work.

Luke pulled up all the old pad by himself. He was so proud of his piles;)

Here is a before of the trim. I have issues with fake wood finish and I hated this trim with a passion. Solution: paint! (Ignore the stains on the floor. I have a 2 year old who tried to pour himself a cup of apple juice the week before. Only problem is that he tried to do it in the doorway of his room with a full pitcher and didn't stop when his cup was full....)

This loveliness is what I have been looking at for 3 years. So sad. In the doorways we had a gap of about an inch where I could see this nasty sub-floor and my kids could rip out bits of padding and do who knows what with it. Embarrassing much? Yup.

Doesn't that white trim just look amazing? LOVE IT!

After a long hard day of working we were finally done with our prep.

Sunday- Day of rest. Did I mention that throughout this whole process we were staying at my parents house? It was insane!

Monday- Yay! The carpets were installed!!!! It took most of the day to put our house back in order, but with Chad and Noah to help it wasn't too bad. Jonathan and Reagan love the new carpets which are a lot more soft than that gross wannabe blue shag. They were so happy to roll around on it that night.

Thank you times a million to my family for their help. I truly would not have been able to do this without their help! We love you guys!!!!!

So much work, but yes I agree--you really have to get just what you want when it's something like this. It is GORGEOUS!!! The carpet, the white trim. Stunning! Seriously.

In our house (been here 2 years), carpet was one of those ASAP things, too. But ASAP, like you said, isn't always ASAP. Bummer. ;)
