Congratulations Paige!

The last several years have been nothing if not a series of struggles and triumphs for my little sister.  Paige is an example to me everyday of what can happen when someone is ready to acknowledge problems, accept responsibility, and strive for change.  Unfortunately, the pathway to success is long and hard.  But, actually maybe I should say fortunately.  If it was easy I don't think it would mean as much or feel so good.  I am reminded of an institute teacher years ago who said he was grateful for the word "nevertheless" in the scriptures.  At the time I thought it was an interesting concept.  Today I think I am beginning to understand more of the greater meaning behind that simple word.

Paige was a person many would have seen as "lost."  A person that statistics would say should not be able to succeed.  She should not be able to overcome her addictions, make restitution for past mistakes and allowed yet another chance.  Nevertheless, her Father in Heaven loves her still!  Paige has been clean and sober almost 2 years (I think...I lose track of the months) and completed her program.  We were honored to attend her GED graduation ceremony 2 weeks ago at which she was a speaker.  I was moved to see how many people have been there to support and encourage her.  She is such an inspiration to me and an example of what the atonement is all about.  She has a long road ahead of her as she continues to make the right choices and struggles with the impact the consequences of past choices has on her future.  However, I know that she is worth it!  Paige, you are worth it.  You do not have to allow past mistakes to define who you are today and who you are going to be in the future.  We love you and we are so proud of you!!!!
