Guess who turned 12?! Oh, the title gave the surprise away;) Adrian was so excited for his birthday and we decided to add to our birthday traditions this year since I've seen a lot of ideas online (pinterest of course!)
Here is the gang anxiously awaiting the surprise breakfast (I even woke up early enough on a school day to actually make breakfast. I know right?)
Adrian loved having the morning be about him. He woke up to the traditional birthday banner and a big star wars bag on the table.

The new tradition: cake waffles! You use a box cake mix as your waffle batter and then sandwich the waffles together with frosting. Yum, yum. The breakfast of champions I tell ya! (I bet his teachers loved me that day...)
12th birthdays are pretty special in our family. In our church 12 years old is when worthy men get to have the Priesthood. Adrian was ordained a Deacon in the Aaronic Priesthood on Sunday, June 10, 2012 by his father. The biggest responsibility for Deacons is passing the sacrament on Sundays during Sacrament meeting (our Sunday worship service). Adrian has been preparing for the day for a long time. For his presents he got things that go along with this. A new tie, new church shoes (size 9?!), and a book about how the Priesthood will help him in his life/what his responsibilities are.
After Adrian was ordained he told me that he could felt "heavy." It was so neat watching him pass the Sacrament the following Sunday. I am so proud of the young man that Adrian is becoming. Makes my heart warm to know he is helping and serving as much as he can. We love you Adrian!

Happy birthday! Adrian is growing up too fast! What a great birthday! It is so neat to watch your boys start to pass the sacrament. It really makes them seem older. We have 12 boys turning 12 in our ward this year! crazy! The twins don't even have to pass anymore because we have so many new deacons. Don't worry about the carpet when you come. You can't do anything worse than 3 teenage boys and their friends!! Skyler said he is not the HOFF, but he knows a kid who thinks he is. hahaha.
Oh, that is awesome. I know my grandparents are smiling down at him! What a great boy.
Your cake waffles "take the cake!!" Wow!! We have a special breakfast for birthdays, too, and it's the only time I ever MAKE breakfast, so it's super special! :)
