Have you ever attempted a project that seemed really simple in your head and totally turned out funky? This attempt at recovering a chair is sort of like that for me; however, the end result is not funky enough for me to redo my redo!
About a month ago a friend of mine sent out an email that her son no longer used this chair and she was giving it away so I jumped all over it (the opportunity, not the chair). I knew that I could either leave it as it was or have my first attempt at recovering a chair be this little number. I went with option 2 since I had big dreams and schemes in mind for a reading nook chair. The only problem was that Jonathan seemed to think that the batman chair belonged to him and him alone:

He was really sad when I informed him that mommy was going to the store to buy some fabric to recover this bad boy. (Note the loose-ish fit of the cover....stay tuned)
The fabric I found has led to a whole separate transformation and theme in Reagan's room that screams girl, but is not an overpowering pink and girly feel. Some of it has already happened, but the rest will be for her birthday next month.
Jonathan has warmed up to the idea of the chair being made over since it has some green on it.
My little munchkins love to read books and love to play together so it isn't hard for me to entertain them (usually!)
'Member how I sad to notice the loose fit of the batman cover? 'Member?
Well, my cover...not so much on the loose side of things. I have no idea how this happened, but it is way to tight on the arms of the chair. Not enough to fix it though;) I took the old cover apart with a seam ripper, used the pieces as my pattern and put it back together. I guess I gave myself too much of a seam allowance? Oh well, I still love it even if it isn't "perfect" since nothing ever is. So for now this is how I meant to do it:
The other changes that have taken place have more to do with curtains and clothes. I wanted to enclose the closet again, but hate the sliding closet doors so I went with a non-traditional fix:
These are sliding curtains from Ikea (I'm lucky it isn't closer since I would spend way too much money on all that crap.) The curtain panels were too long so I cut them to the right length and then had to decide what to do with the leftovers. Enter moment of brilliance. Get rid of those disgusting metal blinds in the window and replace them with shades. (I added a little of the fabric from the chair to make them long enough.)
This room has less of the construction DIY that needs to happen so it has been lower on my to-do list, but is slowly taking shape as money and time allow.
Back when the little ones still shared this room I totally did a pinterest project and hung up an oil drip pan on the wall behind the door for all the magnets. They love it and I love not having all those magnets on the fridge. The pans are in the automotive section at walmart and I think it was $15 or so? Totally worth it. I love that I utilized a useless spot in the room for something productive:)
The other thing I have done is eliminate the huge dresser in the room and replaced it with more trofast in the closet.
(And no, Reagan is not in Boy Scouts. I have the boys hang-up clothes in her closet since I turned theirs into a desk/office nook. So far it is working out perfectly.
I can't wait until her birthday projects are done and then I can do a room reveal! In the mean time I hope you have enjoyed the little glimpses:)
