When we heard that Brigham City, UT was going to be getting a temple we knew we would do whatever it took to go for a visit to Rachel and Marks. Not only would we get to spend time with an amazing family that we LOVE, but we would get a chance to take our kids to the temple! This trip had the added bonus of the addition of Andrew's dad, Lamont. He rode along with us and we spent a week in Utah together. I am so thrilled that our kids got a chance to make the memories that they did. My biggest initial concern was for sanity on the road. I am happy to report that the road trip was a success! I had coloring books, activity sheets, treats to go along with the clothespins, and a whole lot of good intentions:) Grandpa also brought along some stuff for the kids. The best part however was that Rachel had mailed us a package before we left of things to open along the way. The kids were so excited to make it to Baker City for their first treat. We were completely spoiled and it was one of the best vacations our family has had to date!

I tried to teach Luke how to play cats cradle. It was a little awkward since I was at a weird angle to him, but he was figuring it out pretty well. Then the yarn became needed for other adventures/inventions and the game was put on hold.
Andrew and I divided up the driving fairly even this time, but I'll admit he did drive a bit more than I did...I get bored and distracted--not a great combo with driving 80 mph!
My favorite activity in the car was looking for license plates. We had a sheet to track them on and we did pretty well. I still catch myself looking for them;) Luke was really into it and every time that we made a stop he would walk the parking lots looking for states that we didn't have yet. There was very little fighting and the drive was actually quite pleasant! I'm already ready to do it again!

Wow, I love all the activities that you did in the car!! All great ideas. And how awesome of Rach to send you stuff, too! When my kids were little, we did that--had a little bag to open at certain times. Sometimes I put treats in, sometimes games. It REALLY helped. Sounds like you guys did GREAT. I love the clothespin idea.
