So apparently it takes a year to put together a court of honor for our scout troop because that's how long it's been;) Adrian has been anxiously awaiting the chance to receive his merit badges and rank advancements so he was really excited to get the chance in September! The nice thing about having such a long break in between is that there were a lot of things handed out. I have been pushing Adrian to stay on top of his scouting since I know if he procrastinates too much/too long he will never get it done.
In the past year Adrian has earned 3 ranks: Tenderfoot, Second class, and First class. He also earned 10 merit badges: First Aid, Law, Cooking, Communication, Geocaching, Environmental Science, Citizen in the Community, Crime Prevention, Wood Carving, and Emergency Preparedness. If you add those to the two he had from before (Fire Safety and Fingerprinting) he has a solid dozen done! I still feel pretty inept when it comes to how the scouting program works, but I am learning as we go along. Adrian has big plans to earn his Eagle before he turns 16 and we fully support him in that. Even though this summer was a little rough with the maturity level being what it is:) With every scouting activity, every campout, and each service project I am seeing a slow progression into a more responsible young man. I think he also starts to see the fruits of his labors and gets really excited when he has more merit badges than the other boys his age.
Way to go Adrian--keep up the hard work!

Wow, good for Adrian!! That is awesome. And, yes, getting Eagle by 16 is the way to go because you just get so busy after that. I am pretty inept about scouting myself, but have learned a few things now that my oldest is 15 and I'm doing Cub Scouts for the second time. The maturity/responsible progression does take a while for most boys, as far as I can tell! Sounds like Adrian is doing AWESOME!!! WTG!
