Have I mentioned that I started another blog?! Well, in case I haven't: I started another blog! I decided that this year I was going to be better about having family home evening lessons that are actually planned out and prepared. What better way to do that than to use the resources available to me with the new curriculum put out by the LDS church: Come, Follow Me. And then I thought that if I was going to put that much effort into it than maybe someone else could benefit from it too! From there my blog was born: Following Christ as a Family. After doing it for a few weeks I decided that I wanted to make an attempt at shameless self-promotion. I worked up the courage and emailed Melanie at Sugardoodle who responded that she would love to feature my blog on her facebook page!
And the month of February has meant the plan of salvation was our topic.
I felt so famous! In one day my blog had over a thousand hits and my followers grew to 14...which was a big deal to me! I don't create the lessons for the recognition, but it did make me feel like the effort is worth it. I needed that when I sometimes feel like my own kids could care less about it. It seems like 98% of FHE is pretty good, but it's that other 2% that makes me wonder why I torture myself in trying to get the kids to go along with things!
One week the kids made creations out of playdoh as they learned about being unique creations of our Heavenly Father.
And the month of February has meant the plan of salvation was our topic.
I have always loved the various visual aids in teaching about this concept. The best was when we were talking about how we can't remember what happened in our pre-mortal life since we passed through the veil at birth. Jonathan informed me that he just jumped right over that veil so he still remembers everything. He says he just can't tell me what he remembers because it is a secret;)
As I listen to my children expressing their testimonies and taking turns in teaching concepts I know that all of this work is worth it. They may not appreciate it all right now, but someday they will!
As a shameless plug for myself you should head over and become a follower yourself if you haven't already done it--I'd love to have you there!

I love your new blog. I have shared it also and posted it on Facebook. I am really excited for you that you are "famous" on Sugardoodle!!!! That's SO COOL!!
I'm like you--totally willing to do a ton of work for a good purpose, but since it's so much work it makes me even happier when I can share it and have someone else benefit from all my work. I TOTALLY get you on that!!
I think there is so much you are teaching just by having FHE and making it important. I think kids learn more than we think they do, and I think the biggest thing we can teach is by our example--we love the gospel so much that we want to share it, even with kids who make it hard sometimes. We have 2 kids who totally participate, make great comments, etc., and 1 who ...stinks sometimes. But that child will have no doubt at all how much the gospel means to his parents and that they know the church is true.
