Eat, Cry, Eat, Cry, Eat, Sleep

That has pretty much been Jonathan's routine for the last several nights. He is a bit colicky which kind of sucks, but it comes with the territory of babies. It wouldn't be so much to deal with if I had been feeling better! On Sunday I came home from church feeling shaky and having the chills. I decided to check my temp and sure enough I had a fever, not too bad at that point only 100.4*. Within a few hours though it peaked at 102.7* and I was not doing very well. I have decided that I would be lost without my husband being there to give me a blessing anytime that I need one. With the help of that blessing and a good dose of Tylenol I was able to get some sleep and the fever broke about 4am. I should have paid more attention to signs sooner. For several days I was feeling more tenderness when nursing on the left side and then on Saturday I noticed there was an enlarged and tender lymph node in my left armpit. Monday morning I put all the pieces together and figured it out: mastitis. I pretty much spent Monday in bed with the baby trying to get better on my own, but yesterday I called my Dr for some antibiotics. So I have been having lots of fun this week;) Jonathan has been pretty good throughout the whole thing though. He is mostly just being a little stinker at night! It starts around 7:30. I feed him and then he stays awake, about 30 minutes after he eats he starts the inconsolable crying. Around 9 I will feed him again and he usually will eat this time for about 45 min-an hour only to cry after that for another hour or two. Then I will feed him again and he will go until there is truly nothing left for him! Then the crying starts again...only this time he acts starving too:( Since he has eaten everything up and I know he isn't starving I try to get him to wait another hour before he eats again. Then when I feed him again he only eats for about 10-15 min total before he is passed out and totally asleep. Then he sleeps, and sleeps, and sleeps:) Last night he slept from 12:30 to 7:20! I would whine and complain more about the colic if he wasn't sleeping for such a long stretch of time. I mostly get worried that his crying will wake up Adrian or keep Andrew from sleeping (I do make him get up and help too, but he has to get up at 3am for work so I try to be nice and let him sleep.)
In general Jonathan is a very good baby, he is just growing so fast! He is awake and alert for several hours a day now and he is holding up his head pretty good. He seems so interested in everything going on around him. This is the most fun in the world to get to spend my days and nights by his side-I am loving every minute of it!

That sucks about the mastitis! I had it 5 times with Porter, so I am well versed if you need anything :) One thing I found out after the 5th time of it was that to prevent it it helps to keep your breasts warm. I'm glad he's sleeping so well at night! Hopefully the cluster feedings and colic will end soon. I'm glad you're enjoying everything! Hopefully we'll get to see you and Jonathan soon!
