"Arctic Blast"

You know you are watching network television when all programing has been pre-empted to give "up to the minute" coverage of the latest weather phenomenon. The current story is the winter storm we are having in our neck of the woods. The planes, trains, and automobiles are not getting around too successfully these days. Today Andrew and Adrian came up with an even better way to get around town:

Apparently our dog is quite the sled dog! He has been in the house the better part of this past week and so we thought it would be a good idea to put him to work. I guess he was able to pull Adrian up the hills and everything, but when Andrew got on the sled Reese wanted nothing to do with it! I love the way snow looks, but I am not a fan of playing in the stuff. And I am definitely not a fan of this storm we have going on right now. This morning we woke up to a 1/4" thick sheet of ice on top of a foot of snow in our back yard. Reese was so confused about what to do and so he just peed where he was on the ice...must be hard to not have a clue about what is going on.
Yesterday was the family Christmas party at my uncle's house in Hillsboro. Of course I forgot to take any pictures while I was there so you will all just have to use your imagination. Andrew had to work so he wasn't there and I didn't want to drive Cornelius Pass anyways so we bummed a ride with my family. I am so glad that we did! The trip there was not too bad, there was ice and snow to deal with but the visibility was pretty good and the roads weren't too bad yet. However, the trip home was quite another story. I just have to say I am so grateful to have a father who is such a good driver! The scariest part for me was when we were coming down the pass and some idiot 2 cars in front of us slammed on his brakes because there were some branches in the road. The car in front of us slid into the other lane almost slamming into the embankment and we slid in the other lane too, but not as far over. Luckily no one was hurt, but it was scary. About 5 seconds after we got going again and were back on the right side of the road a car came up the hill going fast enough that it would have been ugly had we still been in his lane of traffic. I thought once we got to the highway that things would be better; however, apparently no one thought of having a snow plow come anywhere near HWY 30 yesterday. There was so much snow on the ground it was like driving through mud and there were no "lanes" at all. Let's just say I was glad to get home and ever so grateful for a father who has such mad driving skillz...thanks in large part to big brown I am sure;) As much fun as it will be to have a "white Christmas" I will be glad to see this stuff disappear...although then the flooding will begin...

Oh, please. I don't even want to think about the flooding. I'm already piling up rags for the first hint of warming - our basement is going to be a wading pool!
