A Weekend at the Beach!

When I heard my parents were headed off to the coast this past weekend I decided it was time for some much needed R&R and a trip to the beach was just what I needed. Little did I know the sun was going to be hanging out there to brighten up our vacation. Adrian had such a blast and Grandpa Dave had the time of his life introducing Adrian to all things "beach." Adrian had only been to the beach once before in his life when Andrew took him as a toddler so this was quite the adventure for him. He wanted to "hike" to the beach, hunt for seashells and agates, "swim" in the ocean, fly kites, build sand castles, and of course bring home a dead jelly fish (gross!). I hope he had a good time making memories that will last a lifetime and hopefully we will get to go back many more times:)
The "hike" started at Rory's bench and made its way down to the sand with the aid of a few cleverly crafted walking sticks. (Excuse the glaring sun, it really was quite beautiful!)

My favorite was when they came back with soaked shoes because they "accidentally" stepped in the water. But, the best was when Adrian came back from playing in the sand soaked up to his waist because he "accidentally" got caught by a wave and he "accidentally" forgot he wasn't supposed to play in water because it was too cold and all the clothes were packed up already!

Here we are on the "balcony." If Adrian wasn't asking to go down to the beach he was asking to go out on the deck which he decided was more like a balcony. From here he could watch the waves for hours during the day and at night go out with Grandpa Dave and look at the stars--he even saw Venus!

Jonathan on the other hand was quite content to just lay around sucking his thumbs/knuckles clinging to his "silky" all weekend. What a little ham!

You already know that I spent the weekend shopping, but I also got some scrapbooking done. The only thing that would have made this weekend more perfect would have been if Andrew and Luke had been able to come with us too. Unfortunately it wasn't our weekend to have Luke and Andrew had to work. Andrew also had to take the Physical Ability test for Portland Police...which he passed! (I wasn't worried about this one at all...) Next step is interview in about a month. Fingers crossed! If it can't be the fire department yet, maybe the police department is where he should be? Anyways, given that the weather was beautiful, the company was perfect, and the beach house was spectacular (despite a HARD mattress!) it turned out to be the best weekend in a long time.
(P.S. given some responses to last Tuesday night's post can I just say WHAT THE HECK!!! Why in the world didn't they vote Joelle off tonight???? I was so irritated and now they are making it look like Dan is going to be in the bottom 2 again next week! I don't know if I can handle watching the biggest loser anymore...)

I felt the same way watching the biggest loser tonight! I hope those two really don't end up in the bottom two.
Good Luck to Andrew, we are going through the same stuff at our house.

Again, I forgot to watch the Biggest Loser. Man, I am a loser. But it looks like you guys had tons of fun at the beach. We should plan a big friend day at the beach. That would be lots of fun.
